Zolani Mahola of Freshlyground – See The Music – Episode 1
See The Music, is a new visual project that I am working on. I originally started in photography taking photos of bands in 1993. I am a huge music fan and one of my passions is to support local musicians, and ofcourse photography. About a year ago I decided to start a new personal project (after competing The Cherish Series project) this time focusing on taking unique portraits of South African musicians and bands. I sometimes use other artists to help me create my visual goal and sometimes I use traditional photography.
Although I have a lot of musicians that I have already worked with I have decided to start releasing the material, this is an ongoing personal project.
A unique take on our musical icons.

EPISODE 1 – Zolani the Warrior
Zolani Mahola is a South African Icon.
I am proud that I had the opportunity to work with her and that she wanted to be a part of my project, but I am even more proud that I can also call her my friend!
Zolani is the lead singer of one of the most famous South African bands, ever….Freshlyground.
In this series we wanted to put Zolani in an environment that would be something different from a normal Freshlyground shoot and to create something unique of which wouldnt be similar to her other past projects.
With the help of great artist and Friend Rudi Silbermann, we wanted to create a warrior, as to me, Zolani is such a force in South African music. Besides being extremely talented she is also a supporter of local music and artists, as the fact that she worked with me on this project and also, when not touring the world promoting Freshlyground, you are likely to find her supporting a local band or artist in Cape Town….A Local Arts Warrior!
Thank You Zolani, you are a legend and a hero.

Firstly-HOW? and secondly-DAMN! Love these images, I don’t know how you did this or even conceptualized it but the end result looks amazing. Go ahead and put a “Proudly South African” logo on these images!
